Best Things to Do When You Visit Blairsville, Georgia

Who better to get the best recommendations from than the locals?!

We love Blairsville. Our family has grown up in these mountains for generations and we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. After all these years, we’ve uncovered some of the places that make this city so special.

SCROLL THROUGH TO SEE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE BLAIRSVILLE SPOTS.

Blood Mountain

So nice we named one of our drinks after it.

Choose from all kinds of trails varying in distance and difficulty. Take a relaxed walk in the woods with the family or a 12-mile day hike with a buddy.

Blood Mountain is the sixth tallest mountain in Georgia and the highest peak on the Georgia section of the Appalachian trail. At the summit, you’ll find a building made entirely of rock. This structure was built in the 1930s offering refuge for Appalachian trail hikers making the trek from Georgia to Maine.

It’s said that the mountain ran red with blood during a brutal battle between Creek and Cherokee Indians, but some also say that the name comes from the red-colored lichen that grow near the summit - take your pick!

The Hole in the Wall

Where the locals eat.

Union county’s oldest diner sits in the heart of downtown Blairsville serving all-day breakfast everyday since 1931.

Staying true to that old time feel, The Hole in the Wall only takes cash or check - it’s a bit refreshing…but just make sure to stop by the ATM on your way.

Richard Russell Scenic Highway

Don’t take the 4 lane when you can experience all this beautiful drive in North Georgia… and not even leave your car.

Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, the Richard Russell Scenic Highway winds through the dramatic mountains and valleys of the Appalachian mountains.

This 41-mile loop of Georgia’s most beautiful mountain scenery boasts of bright wildflowers in the springtime and all the best hues of autumn in the fall.

We’d suggest allowing three hours of driving time to take in all the sights.

Brasstown Bald

Where all the leaf-peepers go.

The best part of this hike is that the view from the top is just as breath-taking in clear weather as it is in foggy weather. You’re guaranteed a one-of-a-kind view on any given day.

If you’ve studied Georgia history in any capacity, you know that Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia.

Whether you hike or take the shuttle to the top, you’ll get to take in the 360-degree view surrounded by the lush Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. On a clear day, you can see Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina from the peak.

Union County Farmer’s Market

Everything homegrown and handmade - just the way we like it.

Know where your food comes from and who grew it!

Started in 2007, the Union County Farmer’s Market supports local growers, families of small farms, and artisan makers in the area. The market hosts more than 85 vendors selling local produce, plants, eggs, honey, cheeses, soaps, baked goods, and handmade crafts.

Nani’s Restaurant

Nani’s Restaurant

Nani’s Restaurant

Our family’s personal favorite Blairsville spot.

Nani’s has been serving our town the best Cuban, Caribbean, and Puerto Rican food these mountains have ever seen since 2012 and not enough people know about it. (We kinda like it that way… so, only tell those you really like.)

Family-owned and run, Nani’s makes everything from scratch - the best way to make anything. Pay ‘em a visit and you just might see us popping in for our usuals at lunchtime.

Trackrock Campgrounds

Rated one of the top places to stay in Blairsville!

Owned by longtime Blairsville locals Tommie and Martha Alexander, Trackrock Campgrounds is a family-oriented campground full of activities like horseback riding, fishing, swimming, bonfires, and lawn games.

In1966, the Alexanders transformed their family farm into a campsite fit for all types of North Georgia travelers. The 250-acre farm is a blend of meadows, hayfields, and woodlands. The site is home to private campsites, hookups for campers and RVs, and fully-furnished one and two-bedroom cabins.

Bring the family for a weekend adventure and catch one of their Sunday services in the chapel before you head back home.

Lucky’s Taqueria & Cantina

If you’ve ever been to a catered event at the still, then you know Lucky’s!

Lucky’s is just a short walk down the street from the distillery and we think we make a pretty great pair. They’ve got the best tacos, tapas, and fajitas around town.

The shop is named after an Atlanta native named Lucky who ventured down to Oaxaca, Mexico in the 1940s, fell in love with a beautiful girl and the local food, and brought both back to Georgia.

“Lucky's is dedicated to the pursuit of adventure, love, and good eats.“

You just gotta try it.

Helton Creek Falls

The best family spot.

Helton Creek Falls is an easy, quick hike leading to a wooded oasis backlit by a pair of rushing waterfalls.

This is a perfect spot to plant your family for an afternoon with a picnic and snacks. The hike is comparable to a short walk in the woods, and the area surrounding the falls is too captivating not the spend all day at.

Get away by yourself with a hammock and a good book, or take the whole family for a much needed outdoor escape.

And when you’re done with all of your mountain galavanting…

Come unwind at the still and tell us about your adventures. We can’t wait to hear ‘em.
